Inter are increasingly interested in signing Alessandro Florenzi as talks over renewing the full-back’s contract at Roma continue to stumble, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Florenzi, 27, has made 224 appearances for the Giallorossi’s first team since making his debut for the club in 2010, but is out of contract next summer and has yet to reach an agreement over an extension, with reports suggesting that he deems Roma’s new proposed salary to be too low.

Inter are looking for a new right-back following the departure of Joao Cancelo, who completed a move to Juventus from parent club Valencia this week, and Luciano Spalletti is thought to have put the versatile Italian international at the top of his wish list.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Florenzi’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, has met with Inter on two occasions this week, ‘formally to finalise Matias Vecino’s contract extension but essentially to lay the groundwork for Spalletti’s latest project: sign Florenzi after [Radja] Nainggolan.’

“Inter would be willing to offer Florenzi €4 million in wages, roughly €1 million more than Roma have offered him for his new contract,” the Rome-based publication wrote on Friday.

“But it’s not just a question of money: Florenzi at Inter would be first choice at right-back, whereas at Roma he would start the season as a precious 12th man capable of filling in wherever needed.

“Florenzi has become a little tired of being just a stop-gap for Roma and believes he would deserve to be treated differently, which is why there are many within the club who believe a separation is possible, however ungratifying it would be.

“With only one year left on his contract Roma would not be able to ask for more than €20 million for the player: a healthy profit, sure, but a fee which is inferior to his real value.”
