Inter defender Milan Skriniar has sang VAR’s praises as football fans across the world outwith Italy start to come to terms with the ins and outs of the system following its ongoing usage at the World Cup in Russia.

“In Italy it worked all of last season and I got used to it. It is something that makes football the fairest it can be. The most controversial situations on the field can be judged by the referees on the screen and helps them to get to the right decision. VAR is something that helps both referees and football as a whole,” the Slovakian said in an interview with Cas.Sk.

VAR – short for Video Assistant Referee – has saw extensive usage throughout the duration of the World Cup and has seen many calls overturned, particularly for fouls that result in penalties being awarded that would otherwise have been missed in years gone by.
