Lautaro Martinez has already taken to the pitch when Inter played against Lugano. But today will be the day when Mauro Icardi makes his season debut after skipping the Nerazzurri’s first pre-season friendly.

“Martinez has integrated very well in the group and during his Inter debut against Lugano he impressed a lot, showing great physicality and an ability to work for the team”, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

They continue: “This would suggest that the former Racing forward has not come to Milan only to act as a standby for Mauro Icardi. Quite the opposite, in fact.

“Lautaro will not act as a trequartista or as an attacking winger, as he sometimes did back home in Argentina; instead, his characteristics could combine with those of Icardi and it is not implausible that we will see them play together in certain circumstances, if Lautaro can settle quickly and positively into his new Italian surroundings.

“Icardi met up with his teammates a week ago but has had a special program this last week in order to avoid the same physical problems that he experienced during last year’s season start. This is the reason why Maurito did not play against Lugano last week.”
