Former Inter player and French tireless midfielder from the 90’s, Benoit Cauet, spoke exclusively to FCInterNews.it about his plans for the future and about Inter in general.

Are you ready to say goodbye to Inter?

“Not exactly. I have received a proposal from Inter in a scouting role for players between the ages of 15 and 18. My preference however, is to coach. I think I am ready for a first team. I would like to move forward now into the world of big time football. Whether that be as part of a management team or even as a Head Coach for a team either here in Italy or abroad, I’m ready for anything. I have made Roberto Samaden aware of my wishes but if by the end of August I have not found something that I want then the door for me at Inter is always open.”

So is the situation on standby for now?

“Correct. Where esteem and respect is held between the parties, the dialogue becomes easier. My wish to return to the training pitch prevails right now. I am certain that if I was to find something that interests me during the summer, that everyone at Inter would be pleased for me.”

What is the secret of of Inter’s youth system?

“To believe in this type of project. The foundations for this were built back in 2000. We made concrete investments that would stand the test of time. A decision was made to concentrate on very able coaches, who under the wings of people such as Baresi, Ausilio and Samaden, have worked really well together. I highlight this very structure of coaches, all of which have worked with abnegation to try and help develop and grow their young players. In turn, this has helped to create the winning foundations which allow these young athletes to develop and mature. A constant, sustained, commitment. Even from the victories. NOt forgetting the forward leaps in technology and skills. In short, we are never satisfied.”

You have recently been linked to the Inter Primavera team. Were you disappointed not to be called upon?

“I always respect the decisions made by the club. If we look at the results of the last few years Inter’s youth teams have done very well. So it is clear for that I accept the decisions of the club. In fact, I was one of those that advocated the appointment of a coach who has experience of coaching adults instead of waiting for them to change the championships.”

What do you think of the B team proposals?

“I am in complete support of them. It’s a shame that in Italy we have had to wait for the National team not to qualify for the World Cup for it to happen. We needed to wake up sooner. It’s been years that we’ve been saying that the youngsters need to test themselves against more experienced professionals. This could be a decisive change.”

Are there any young players that you remain attached to?

“The approach in general is the greatest thing. The growth of your boys, their development passes from you and the group of coaches. We are there to help them. This is what is important. I also learned a lot, it’s been a spectacular experience.”

Is there a new Benoit Cauet in the game right now?

“I don’t know (laughing). There are players that I like but I don’t know really.

Who is better: Inter’s Ronaldo or Juventus’ Ronaldo?

“I played with Il Fenomeno. He had quality, pace, impressive skills. He was an extraordinary player. But I think it is difficult to compare two players from two different eras. Let’s just say that they both set an example for all to follow: Everyone wants to reach their levels.”

How do you rate Inter’s transfer market so far?

“Up to now it’s been great. The areas of the team that needed freshening up have been and players with a strong personality have arrived also.”

Can Inter compete for just second place or should they aim for the Scudetto?

“Inter are Inter. They must always aim for the top.”
