There is no longer the “if he leaves for Tallin it is over” scenario regarding Luka Modric being called up by Real Madrid for the European Supercup match against Atletico Madrid according to Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera

According to the report: “The last contact between Inter and Modric occurred yesterday morning and the Croatian international has not stopped thinking about an Inter move and the club has not stopped believing in the miracle. Negotiations, in the traditional way, are yet to take place, but until 20.00 CET on Friday evening when the Italian transfer window closes, Inter will keep on fighting. A phone call with Modric, selected Most Valuable Player in this year’s World Cup in Russia, convinced the club and Inter coach Luciano Spalletti even more. The player himself still believes he can get rid of Real Madrid and its inflexible President Florentino Perez.”

The Corriere della Sera continues by explaining that the strategy to sign the player by Inter is clear: “Modric does not want a total clash with the club and has therefore embarked the plane that took the team to Tallin where the European Champions will face Europa League Champions Atletico Madrid in the European Supercup. But come Thursday, after returning to Madrid, Modric will once again – in a last desperate attempt – try to convince Perez to keep his earlier promise and let the player go to Inter.”

There is still no proposal for a contract renewal and Modric has not changed his mind in not wanting to prolong the current contract. The idea that circulates in Spanish media is that Modric has struck a deal with Perez right-hand guy Sanchez, to let him go after the Tallin match with the goal of raising one last trophy that would close his stint at Real Madrid in the best possible way.
