With the January transfer window on the verge of opening, clubs around the world are on the lookout for ways to improve their squad and Empoli are among them.

According to a report from Turin based newspaper Tuttosport, the Azzurri are on the lookout for a new centre back and their search has lead them to Inter’s Andrea Ranocchia.

Empoli manager Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Iachini deems the 30-year-old as the ideal target due to his wealth of experience in Serie A and will try to convince the Italian to join the Stadio Carlo Castellani outfit who currently sit just above the relegation zone in 17th place, three points clear of the drop zone.

The fact Ranocchia, whose contract with Inter runs out at the end of the current season, has yet to see any game time this season could also increase the chances of a move coming to fruition during the transfer window.
