According to Corriere dello Sport, Sime Vrsaljko could well leave Inter due to pending knee surgery.

The Croatian defender has made the decision to go under the knife having been unable to fully recover and is now awaiting for the go-ahead from parent club Atletico Madrid.

It is possible that in the coming days he could be back in Madrid to establish the timing and the effects of the surgery to his left knee that has caused him so much bother in recent months.

The Milan based newspaper report that the surgery could rule him out of action for the next 6-8 months, eliminating any chance of him playing again during this season.

In fact, Inter will continue to pay him until the end of the season, but they will no longer be able to count on him. He will also be removed from the UEFA squad list.

Vrsaljko has missed more games through injury since his arrival at Inter than he has played having made just 13 appearances across all competitions.
