Due to the current wage structure that Aurelio De Laurentiis has implemented at Napoli, it makes it hard for them to sign Inter striker Mauro Icardi according to a report from Sky Sport transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

Napoli are one of a few clubs who have drawn links to the Argentine in recent weeks alongside fellow Serie A club Juventus as tension rises between Inter and the 26-year-old.

Icardi currently earns around €4.5 million a season and is understood to be demanding between €9-10 million in contract extension talks with the club – something Inter are unwilling to meet at the moment due to the fact nobody has offered him around that.

Instead, Inter are prepared to offer Icardi between €6.5-7 million plus bonuses to prolong his stay at the club despite the ongoing controversy.

Di Marzio’s report continues to state that the player himself must also make a decision about what he wishes to do between now and the end of the season.

Icardi has sat out the past four games and has shown no sign of wanting to make a return.
