Inter have joined the race to sign Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez, according to AS.

The Nerazzurri are looking for a replacement for Mauro Icardi after deciding to sell their former captain this summer, despite the Argentine’s desire to remain in Milan.

Valencia appeared certain to sign the 22-year-old in a deal worth €25 million plus Santi Mina, but the deal is becoming more complicated as each day passes.

Gomez has a €50 million release clause and is attracting interest from Barcelona and Tottenham.

The Uruguayan made 36 La Liga appearances for Celta last season, scoring 13 goals and contributing five assists as the club escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth.

Inter are looking for younger players to refresh their attacking line with reports elsewhere on Friday linking them to Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.

Antonio Conte is expected to play a 3-5-2 system next season and Gomez would theoretically fit in as a second striker.
