Joao Mario ruled out a return to Portugal last night but warned Inter he wanted to play more football this season.
The midfielder is heavily linked at the moment with a move to Monaco, having enjoyed precious little game-time in the 2018-19 campaign.
Speaking to SAPO Desporto, Mario said next summer’s European Championships would influence the decision he made on his future.
“My aim is to play this season and I hope to do that while being happy,” the 26-year-old commented.
“I want to make the best decision for myself and the club. We’ll see.
“I have a strong emotional connection with Sporting Lisbon and there’s a clause in my contract which says I can’t go join other clubs in Portugal.
“I have two years left on my deal with Inter and I’ll turn up on 7 July for preseason training, though. I don’t think now is the right moment to return, I’ll stay abroad.”
