Diego Godin received a warm welcome from his new captain Samir Handanovic today as Inter continue preseason in China.

The Nerazzurri touched down in Nanjing on Sunday ahead of their second International Champions Cup fixture against Juventus.

Godin and his Uruguay teammate Matias Vecino arrived slightly before the rest of the first team and will now begin training with the side.

“Diego is a quality player with experience and he can certainly give us a hand in reaching our objectives,” Handanovic told Inter TV.

Godin has joined Inter on a free transfer after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired in June.

The 33-year-old is expected to form a formidable three-man defence alongside Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij, although Conte has other options at the back as well.

Inter lost their first match of preseason on Saturday when they went down 1-0 to Manchester United in Kallang.

Conte will hope his side can redeem themselves when they face his former club Juventus on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the former Italy and Chelsea boss will meet with Inter’s hierarchy to discuss their transfer plans today.
