Antonio Conte appeared to throw Ivan Perisic a lifeline at Inter today by confirming he was ‘satisfied’ with how he played against Juventus.

Perisic played 78 minutes as a second striker in Nanjing as the Nerazzurri drew 1-1 with Juventus, before a penalty shoot-out handed victory to the Old Lady.

Conte was blunt last weekend when telling reporters the Croatian was unsuited to playing at wing-back, but it seems he has not discarded him totally yet.

“In this system Ivan can play as a striker, but now we’ll need to evaluate him in the next few games as well, starting against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday,” Conte said earlier.

“We’ll keep experimenting like we did today because that’s the right thing to do. I’m certainly satisfied with his performance today, like I am with everyone else, because he interpreted situations well and did what I’d asked.

“We will continue to work with him in this late aspect as well.”

Matthijs De Ligt’s early own goal gave Inter the lead against Juventus, before Cristiano Ronaldo equalised with a deflected free-kick.
