The future of Brazilian striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, on loan from Inter at Flamengo, will be decided in the next two weeks, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews.it.

The report details how sources from Brazil suggest that the Brazilian side are incredibly keen to sign Gabigol permanently, owing to his incredible form at the club. Flamengo’s vice president, Marcos Braz, has met Inter over the last few months to discuss a permanent move and feels positive about the chances of it taking place.

The report suggests that the Brazilian club are so sure that a deal is likely that it would only take a phone call to finalise it. The Nerazzurri are asking for €30 million plus promising 17-year-old forward Reinier Jesus Carvalho, but Flamengo aren’t keen on this. Instead they are willing to pay €22 million for Gabigol, with no inclusion of the teenage forward, due to the fact that there is a €62 million release clause in his contract.

Therefore, the report adds, the most likely deal is one that will involve around €22 million plus a percentage of a future resale. Despite Flamengo’s confidence in a deal, Inter are keen for upfront money in order to strengthen the squad, rather than making a future investment.

Another issue with the deal is that Inter are ready for it to take place soon, but an agreement still hasn’t been reached with Gabigol yet, and negotiations could take a few more weeks to complete. Whilst Gabigol has enjoyed playing in his home country, the pressure of repeating a season of this magnitude plus turning down offers in Europe may push him to declining a deal.
