Dries Mertens would gladly accept Inter’s proposal to join them on a free transfer if he is unable to work out a contract extension with Napoli according to a report from FCInterNews.it.

The Belgian attacker’s contract with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of this season and in mid-January he is expected to sit down with Napoli’s management to hold talks over his future.

Napoli are understood to have already offered him a two year contract extension with an annual salary of €4 million plus €1 million in bonuses.

The report goes on to state that Inter are however willing to offer him €4.5 million a year plus €1.5 million in bonuses so he could potentially earn a total of €6 million.

The 32-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 22 appearances this season, has already knocked back rich offers from Shanghai SIPG, Guangzgou R&F, Los Angeles Galaxy, Inter Miami and Al Rayyan.
