Samir Handanovic is unlikely to be able to return to action in Inter’s match this weekend at home to Sampdoria according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Inter captain has missed Inter’s past few games due to a hairline fracture in the small finger in his left hand and although he is nearing a recovery, he still needs more time.

He has not done any training whatsoever with the ball since sustaining the injury a few weeks back in training and as per the report, his presence on Sunday will entirely depend on how he is tomorrow in training.

Inter hope to have the 35-year-old back available for the Derby D’Italia with Juventus at the beginning of next month and do not want to rush him back for the sake of it and take the risk of another injury as they want him to be at 100% for the match against the Bianconeri.

Handanovic has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season, in which he has conceded 29 goals and kept eight clean sheets.
