Former Inter midfielder Cristiano Zanetti has shared his belief that his former club are only a few players away from closing the gap with arch rivals Juventus.

Juventus have reigned supreme over Italian football for nearly an entire decade and have won trophy after trophy with relative ease.

Inter and other Serie A clubs are understandably keen to end the Bianconeri’s monopoly and Zanetti, who also played for Juventus, believes that with three maybe four new players Inter would be able to at least compete on a par with them.

“When you look at the money they pay their players, there is no comparison between Juventus and others in Italy. Inter tried to keep up with them but failed and whilst Lazio are having a sensational season, the level of their squad is very different,” he remarked in an interview with vocegiallorossa.it.

“Conte is doing a great job at Inter but in order to get on a par with the Bianconeri, they must sign another three or four important players.”

Zanetti had two spells with Inter, the first came in 1998 and the other between the years 2001 and 2006. Zanetti made a total of 144 appearances across all competitions for the club in which he scored three goals and provided two assists. During his time with Inter he won one Serie A title and two Coppa Italia.
