Barcelona coach Quique Setien discussed the future of Inter linked Antoine Griezmann when speaking to gathered reporters at a press conference earlier today, ahead of tomorrow’s game against Villarreal with his statement reported by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“He’s a great professional, he’s a player who can understand this situation. He’s an extraordinarily professional, and whether or not he plays, it will not influence him. He’s very positive and we can count on him 100% when he has to return to the pitch.”

Setien then spoke about how the player has settled in Barcelona this season and how much playing time he is receiving.

“He’s a great player for the club and the team. When Griezmann played, you asked me about Ansu and vice versa. They can’t all play, I’m not whimsical and I take into account the hierarchy and the importance of the players. It happens in all teams. I have to take the responsibility for the choices.”

Griezmann has been linked with Inter as he could possibly be included in the deal for 22-year-old Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez.

The player’s €111 million release clause expires in three days and so Barcelona need to act fast if they are to sign the 22-year-old. They cannot afford to pay the release clause in full and have been hoping to offer players in exchange, with Griezmann potentially an option.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has made 43 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 3183 minutes. In that time, he has scored 14 goals and provided four assists.
