In today’s print edition Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have examined Romelu Lukaku’s stellar first season in an Inter shirt.

In 49 games across all competitions to date, the Belgian national team player, who is the most expensive player in Inter history, has scored 31 goals – the same goal tally that the likes of Lionel Messi and Raheem Sterling have achieved this campaign.

Lukaku has scored more goals than Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool’s Mo Salah, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in the 2019/20 season and he has also outscored his predecessor at Inter Mauro Icardi by some distance with Lukaku having netted 11 more goals than the Argentine.

Lukaku has managed to score in 24 of his 49 appearances to date, in other words he manages to score a goal pretty much every other game.

The Belgian national team player has at least one more game this season, possibly two more, and he could well tie or equal the legendary Ronaldo’s debut season tally of 34, which he scored back in 1997/98.
