Lukaku kicked Inter off and 30 seconds later via a nice long ball by Kolarov to Hakimi, the Belgian was putting it into the net.

That was a sign of things to come as Inter raced to a 3-0 lead within 28 minutes. Gagliardini scored a wonderful volley an assisted Lukaku’s second. Inter stepped off the gas and Samir made a horrendous mistake to give Benevento some hope before Hakimi smashed Inter’s 4th and his first to extinguish any hopes.

The second half was more of Inter trying to play time and conserve energy, that is until Lautaro came on and scored another curler from the edge of the box. Sanchez was world class and oh the defence looked shaky on both goals-

Samir Handanovic – 5 : Back to struggling with the ball at his feet. Poor passing was a feature today, even before he decided to pass to a group of 3 Benevento players.

Milan Skriniar – 6: First start of many this season hopefully. Made a couple of rash challenges and caught out of position on Benevento’s second goal. Only bad moment.

Stefan de Vrij – 6: Calming influence in the heart of defence. Moved the ball perfectly even when Benevento were pressing. Apart from the second goal, decent game.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 6: Much better performance by the Serbian. Right from the first minute where he found Hakimi with a delicious pass. Looked much more comfortable.

Achraf Hakimi – 7.5: Already looking like the best signing in the league. Massive upgrade and always available in space. One assist and a goal to add to decent defending.

Roberto Gagliardini – 7: Who is this and what have you done to Roberto? One of his best performances and looked good in his favoured role. Superb strike and great assist.

Arturo Vidal – 6.5: Good debut for Arturo the midfield general. Always the first one to run back and stop any counters as soon as possible. Hopefully not a serious injury.

Ashley Young – 6.5: Made a couple of mistakes, but recovered to stop any damage. Always willing to run and extend the pitch. Decent positioning resulted in the 3rd goal.

Stefano Sensi – 6: Wasn’t Sensi’s best performance as he made a few wayward uncharacteristic passes in the first half. Didn’t stop running and trying to create all game.

Romelu Lukaku – 7.5: Life is good when you have Hakimi and Sanchez trying to set up goals for you. Didn’t have to work very hard and filled up his bags with another brace.

Alexis Sanchez – 7.5: One of the best players in Serie A and possibly Europe after the lock-down ended. Always looked for runs and rattled Benevento from the 1st minute.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: Brought on for Vidal who was limping, brought the usual quantity and quality. Always available as an option to play the ball to for defence. Mature.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: One shot, one goal in 25 minutes. Lots of running and now that the mind is focused, he looks back to the player he was before the Barcelona rumours.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5: Not his finest performance tonight. Looked too laid-back and relaxed and conceded at least one dangerous counter attack because of that attitude.

Ivan Perisic – 5: Missed a goal that a player of his ability shouldn’t miss. Took up the right positions in attack but was largely missing throughout his 25 minutes or so.

Christian Eriksen – N/A: 10 decent minutes under no pressure and that chip could have easily been goal of the week in Italy. Signs of good things to come?

Antonio Conte – 7: The game plan worked from the first minute, literally. His defence and goalkeeper gifted the opponents 2 goals. Power saving mode in the 2nd half.

Marco Piccinini – 5: Let too many easy fouls off. The sparse crowd at the Vigorito didn’t appreciate that. No Inter players were booked as he preferred to warn players.

Inter – 6.5: Fantastic start to the game and the players really just bullied Benevento into submission. The defence needs a lot of work including the goalkeeper.
