Inter have no intention to leave Serie A despite agreeing to join a new European Super League, according to a leading Italian broadcaster tonight.

The Nerazzurri joined AC Milan, Juventus and Italy’s 17 other top-flight clubs in crisis talks at the Lega Serie A’s headquarters today, following last night’s explosive announcement about the birth of a new franchise.

Sky Sport Italia said the three clubs reiterated what was already explained yesterday in the Super League’s official statement, or rather that none of them had any intention to leave their domestic leagues.

Serie A’s clubs will reconvene tomorrow to discuss the matter further, having seemingly reached no meaningful agreement or conclusion in today’s meeting.

Inter, AC Milan and Juventus would be joined in the Super League by six Premier League clubs (Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham) and three La Liga teams (Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid).

The games would be played in midweek, overlapping with the UEFA Champions League but allowing clubs to keep playing in their domestic leagues.

UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin has slammed the proposals as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘a nonsense of a project’, threatening to ban all the clubs’ players from taking part in this summer’s European Championships.

Inter president Steven Zhang resigned from his position on the European Club Association’s executive board today, as an inevitable consequence of the Super League announcement.
