Former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku would like to return to Serie A at some point when his time at Premier League club Chelsea is over.

This according to his agent Federico Pastorello, speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport published in today’s print edition, who also explained that the Belgian had been close to joining Juvenus in the summer he came to Inter.

Lukaku spent only two seasons with the Nerazzurri, but he had a major impact, leading the club for goals in both his seasons at the club and helping them to their first Scudetto in eleven years last campaign.

The 28-year-old left for Stamford Bridge in the summer in a blockbuster move which rocked the Nerazzurri and at the same time helped financially stabilized the club.

However, the striker remains fond of his time in Serie A and would like to one day come back to play in the league.

Lukaku had been a major transfer request of coach Antonio Conte when the Italian tactician took over at Inter in the summer of 2019, but as Pastorello explained, the process of bringing him wasn’t completely straightforward.

“I had facilitated Conte’s move to Chelsea and Antonio, after winning the English championship on his first attempt, he wanted Lukaku,” he explained.

“At that time Romelu was playing for Everton,” he went on, “the first time we met in London it was almost by chance. I told him that, in my opinion, Conte would be the ideal coach to help him make the next step up.”

He continued that “Lukaku, however, chose Manchester United. A year later, when his relationship with his previous agent had expired, he called me from a new mobile phone, which I didn’t even answer immediately because I didn’t recognize it.”

“Romelu told me that everything I had suggested the first time around had turned out to be true and he wanted me as an agent,” Pastorello went on.

On the Belgian’s summer 2019 move to Inter, he explained that “The deal with Inter had stalled because Zhang seemed unwilling to meet Manchester United’s demands.”

“Juventus had an agreement with the English club,” he went on, “that in exchange for Lukaku they would have snet Dybala and Mandzukic the other way.”

“Romelu had already spoken with Sarri and Cristiano Ronaldo. but then Dybala and Man United were unable to come to an agreement, while Marotta, Ausilio, Conte and I managed to convince Zhang to raise his offer,” he explained.

The agent went on that “Without taking anything away from Lukaku’s teammates at Inter, I think that his transfer has shifted the balance in Serie A.”

And on whether Lukaku would like to return to the league, Pastorello stated that “Yes, because Romelu is in love with this country. But now right now he’s enjoying his time at at Chelsea.”
