Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang feels that Inter Milan’s popularity in China owes a lot to legendary former President Massimo Moratti.

Zhang spoke about the impact that the former President had in a TikTok Q&A, via FCInter1908.

The Serie A title that Inter clinched earlier this week is a testament to the era of success that the club have enjoyed with Zhang as President.

Still, Zhang has big shoes to fill in the form of Massimo Moratti.

Moratti enjoyed a long and iconic reign at the helm of Inter. This culminated in the famous European Treble of the 2009-10 season.

But that has allowed Moratti to be something of a mentor to Zhang.

The former President has always praised the job that his protege has done in charge.

And that admiration is certainly more than mutual. Zhang feels that Moratti is a huge part of the Inter legacy that he inherited as President, and that the club would not be where it is without him.

That includes in terms of the Nerazzurri’s popularity in Zhang’s home country of China.

Steven Zhang: Inter Popularity In China Thanks To Moratti

Zhang said that “I called Moratti this morning to thank him.”

“Perhaps without him, we as Chinese fans would never heard of Inter.”

“As a child, I’d heard of Inter, Juventus, and Milan,” Zhang noted. “If it hadn’t been for he and his father [Angelo Moratti] then perhaps they wouldn’t be so famous here in Chiona.”

“Today, I’m the one who’s put the second star on the shirt,” the Inter President continued.

“But without all the trophies that he won earlier, then I wouldn’t have achieved what I’ve achieved today,” Zhang remarked.

He also said that “Initially I had no intention of becoming President.”

“But then some words from Moratti pushed me into accepting this position.”
