Marino, you coached Sanchez at Udinese. What do you think of him going to Inter?
“Alexis Sanchez is an exceptional player. I think he would do well at Inter. If he doesn’t play with continuity, as is the case in Barcelona, I’m sure he’s going to try to leave. Therefore, it is likely that he is looking for another important club where he can play more.”
In what positions and in what formations can Sanchez play?
“He can play in many systems. He can be seconda punta in 4-4-2, or play as winger in the same game system. He can be offensive winger in 4-3-3 or seconda punta in 3-5-2. He’s very dutile, he can play at any position behind the striker in the 4-2-3-1. He is athletic, runs a lot, there is no problem with any information.”
What problems might he have had in Barcelona when he came to a big team?
“Last year he played, Guardiola adored him. Then he was injured and was out for three months and hasn’t played with continuity. Now he is playing well and this could be an important opportunity to go play with continuity in another team like Inter.”
You have also coached Rodrigo Palacio. Next year, he and Sanchez could become teammates in an attack complemented by Icardi or Milito.
“They can play together. Palacio play on all offensive positions, he prefers to be as close to goal as possible. I had the pleasure of coaching Rodrigo, he is extremely professional, trains hard and is a champion.”
At Udinese you also coached Samir Handanovic, did you expect him to do so well at Inter?
“I never doubted him. When he came to Udine, he had to start as a reserve and when he started playing, he was never off the team again. He’s very hard on himself, and such a person can’t do nothing but improve. Then he’s cool in his personality, if he plays in front of 5,000 or 80,000 spectators doesn’t matter to him, he is not impressed. I’m really happy for him, he has not lost his humility and has a great personality. Now and then I send a few text messages and he responds immediately. I praised him for his fine play in the derby and he responded within 30 seconds. He’s a great guy.”

“According to me he is. And he gets better all the time. Even when he got to rest, he asked to practice, maybe if he had not been so involved in the game he trained the day after.”
