Javier Zanetti is a person who’s known for his politeness and his cool but tonight the Inter skipper told the media exactly what he thought starting with when he was interviewed by Inter Channel: “I’ll make myself tired in trying to understand this, that pnealty was invented, it was literally invented and it’s an absolute disgrace. The referee blows his whistle signalling that Samuel touched the ball with his hands but we told him immediately that he’d made ahuge mistake and that he would know that he had made a mistake afterwards. Then and there a new match started, because they started to believe in themselves which is quite logical. The statistics say that we haven’t had a penalty called in our favour in just over half a season, and ok it’s fine. We ‘ll have to pretend that we’re unlucky because if I say more we will be punished.”

“We didn’t deserve to lose this match, despite all the difficulties we had confidence in our ability to win. I don’t wan’t to focus entirely on the penalty but in this case that situation was decisive, it gave the hope. I feel bad for Alvarez who had a terrific game, he was jeered by the public but he showed great character and he demonstrated his class. Unfortunately we’re not that many in attack and Antonio’s injury hurts us but we’ll have to continue with the players we have.”

The skipper didn’t coll off and if anything he was even angrier when he was interviewed by Sky: “What burns the most? Up until 3-1 we were leading against a strong Atalanta-side. Then this invented penalty-kick, they got some confidence back into their team, yes you could say that the key to what happened was due to the penalty. That mistake was decisive, we were in control of the match, then from nowhere we concede a penalty that the referee invents! This happens us all the time. Unfortunately this is a season where we haven’t exactly been lucky with the refereeing decisions. The injuries? We have to look forward to the next match with the players we have.”

A short moment later he was interviewed by Mediaset Premium: “I’m sorry because up until 3-1 we were in complete control and then the incident with the invented penalty, I’m saying it was invented because we saw what happened on the pitch, Samuel didn’t touch the ball with his hands. Then and there a new match started and that was the key to what happened later. It’s one of thos seasons which only ever seems to happen to us.”

Before leaving San Siro Zanetti spoke briefly to our Italian partners at FcInterNews.it and was asked if he believed that Schelotto would face any disciplinary action due to what happened after the game: “Yes, to be perfectly honest, I expect everything. After what I’ve seen on the pitch I expect everything” Zanetti concluded.
