Since he came to Manchester City Maicon has not been himself. He left Inter last summer for just over 4 million excluding bonuses and has subsequently been injured often and made few appearances. In an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Lancenet! he guaranteed that he will remain in Manchester: “This hasn’t been a good season, but I can say, to one hundred, percent that I won’t leave. I’m calm, I want to recover from injury and return to the pitch on the highest level, I need to regain my place in the Seleçao.”

Maicon also revealed why he left Inter: “After six years with Inter, I felt I needed a change. The coach factor certainly played a role too. I had already worked with Mancini, it was one of the things that convinced me to go to the City.”

But not only, because there were also financial reasons: “In football, there is need for investment and long term planning. Inter have done it for many years, but when you stop making certain investments, it becomes more complicated. The crisis in the country has contributed to the weakening of the teams and therefore, the Italian football has difficulties.”

At Inter, however, Maicon got to know Mourinho, with whom he won everything with: “I don’t like to talk about the coaches because I’m not a person who likes to do that kind of statements. I prefer, to a certain point, to talk about myself. But José Mourinho is an artist. He knows how to lead and motivate a team, especially in the key matches. Working with him at Inter was a pleasure.”

The Italian football? “There is a big difference between that and English football. Here, the game is faster and the referee lets the game flow. In Italy it’s more fragmented and therefore it loses tempo. Yet, despite the differences, I had no problems adapting. I have no plans of changing my position to the center of the midfield, I’m comfortable on the wing and that’s where I’m staying.”

He has a big dream: to be the protagonist in the World Cup with Brazil. Maicon isn’t hiding it and salutes Inter. His time with Inter is over, but the legend is forever.
