Zanetti: “The career over? Forget it!”

“The career over? Forget it!” That’s what Javier Zanetti said when he was interviewed by Canchallena, the website of newspaper La Naicon. “I will overcome this moment, I will be 40 years old but the tank is still full. My career is not over, I will be returning with more energy and more power. What’s important now is to recover well and what I want now is to be with my teammates. I want to return to Pinetina and have a mate (caffeinated beverage from South America) with them. The recovery? Six or eight months doesn’t matter.”

Zanetti then retold what happened when he was injured in Palermo: “I came to the short line, and at a certain point it felt like the muscle moved upwards. I realized immediately that it was something serious, I thought it was something with the Achilles tendon and unfortunately it was so. It was a tough day.”

Now, Zanetti will be forced to have the leg still for three weeks and then a splint will be used. Rehabilitation will then step up when the team comes back from vacation: “I will do everything calmly, I want to recover well. The league starts during the last days of August so there will be a break right away. I don’t want to lose too much of time.”

This forced break can perhaps be seen as a preview for his farewell to the pitches? “I might have more leisure time, but while I’m undergoing rehabilitation I will always be focused on returning to the pitch because I will continue to think as a footballer. I’m still a football player, even though I’m injured.”

For taking a place in Inter’s top management, there is still time: “I as vice president? It’s true, it can happen. We will probably have a lot of talks about this, Moratti and I. Next year will be important for Inter.”
