In an interview with Sky Sport 24, one of the team’s most important players so far – Hugo Campagnaro – speaks of his thoughts on playing in black and blue. Here are his words regarding Roma, Inter’s next league opponent: “I do not think more about Roma than I have done with any other opponent, as we are still in the beginning of the season. We know what kind of team Roma is and we respect them, but right now we need to think of ourselves and focus on making our play work even better. We know that they have a strong team, they score plenty of goals and let in very few. We are not worried by this, but we know that we will have to work hard. Roma has always been good at finding new players that do well for the team, and this year I am impressed with Benatia and De Sanctis, a big reason why Roma doesn’t concede much”.

The Inter defender is asked if he had expected such a good start to the season from Inter: “No, I didn’t think we would start this well because we were in the beginning of a new project, but we need to keep playing like this and make the best of our good start”.

A few days ago, Mazzarri made a joke about the fact that Campagnaro and him are in the same team for the third time in a row, and said that it is in fact Campagnaro that convinces the clubs to employ Mazzarri, rather than the other way around: “I wouldn’t say that I have had that kind of influence in any of my clubs”, Campagnaro says smiling, “but it’s true that we once again find ourselves together here at Inter. What’s so special about Mazzarri?  He has a great winning attitude that makes everyone perform at one hundred percent”.

To say that Inter can compete for the Scudetto doesn’t bother Campagnaro, who then explains his views in detail: “I like hearing you talk about it,  but we have to keep playing like we do and always give a hundred percent. Right now it is too early to discuss it, but I am curious to see how we perform as the season goes on. At this point it might be over-confident to say that we will fight for the Scudetto, maybe we can start talking about it in the second half of the season”.

The interview comes to a close with the question if he had expected Mauro Icardi to be called up to the national team: “Considering that he hasn’t played a lot yet, I’ll have to admit that I hadn’t, but if you look at his qualities I am not surprised at all. There is no doubt about his talents”.
