Ventura: “Mazzarri unhappy with the referees? It was a clear penalty”

“We started the game well and created a few chances. The goals we conceded were because of our own mistakes, rather than because of Inter’s quality. I am very happy with the fact that we still hadn’t given up in the 93rd minute: we were playing Inter and we had seven unavailable players. Unfortunately we make too many simple mistakes, Inter did a good job of exploiting them. With one man more, we should have been able to control the game better, we are still developing as a team”. Those are the words of Torino head coach Giampiero Ventura in an interview with Sky after the 3-3 draw. “I am happy with Bellomo and Farnerud today. The first player was a gamble that turned out well, the free kick was very well hit. Farnerud however is beginning to understand how football is played in Italy”.

Do the conceded goals mean that most of your hard work was in vain? “Inter had eight players behind the ball and they were very dangeroust on the break: you just need to watch their third goal to understand this. They manage to punish us because they have several players of high quality. There are certain things that are said when Inter play a compact team, Juventus usually complain when it happens. But after the first five or six minutes, we hade created a shot in the post and a penalty. What do I think about Mazzarri not wanting to talk about the game because he is unhappy with the referees? He just informed me about his decision, I am surprised. Also because we aswell have had to suffer from some controversial referee decisions, as you all have been able to see in the last few weeks. Today the penalty call seemed correct, I would even say that it was a clear penalty. Handanovic’s red card? I don’t know…”.
