Long interview with Thohir: “I’m coming to Milan to win”

Inter’s new majority owner Erick Thohir was interviewed by Repubblica after the match against Torino: “I really like how Walter Mazzarri gets the team to play and Torino – Inter was a really good match. I couldn’t resist common sense which advised me to go to bed, given that I had to get up early this morning (yesterday ed.). But I’m not sad, in the end I was glued to the screen almost until dawn. Ten to eleven we deserved to win. There is a fine balance between those who have a few years behind them and the enthusiasm of the young. Cambiasso and Campagnaro provide safety, as well as Handanovic even though he is only 29 years old. But behind them there is the energy from Juan Jesus Taïder, Icardi and Belfodil, the future. That is the mix I want, experience and athletic freshness. Experienced, proven players like Guarin and Nagatomo . My dream ? Using more guys from  the Primavera who do very well by in our leagues. It requires trust. I think that many young Italian talents have the right to get the chance to play in the first team to really show what they are worth.”

On coach Mazzarri: “I like the work he does. He came with an ‘ exciting ‘ team to entertain. Sometimes you play a draw. There could also be some losses. But this year’s Inter is certainly nice to watch. I remember many boring games where the team was quite closed in the defense… I know that sometimes you have to defend to achieve results, but don’t misunderstand me. And I want to assure Inter’s fans: I’m coming to Milan to win.”

Massimo Moratti spoke about Thohir sending him text messages during the whole match, which the Indonesian acknowledged: “Red card”, “Saved! Well done Carrizo”,”Guaaarin, goal!” and finally “Good night brother!”

Erick Thohir on the sale of his share of the Philadelphia 76ers: “Yes, I will close the deal next week, I’m selling my part with a good return for my partner in adventure. I love sports, basketball in particular, but the goal of my group is currently to develop Inter and DC United, the team I bought in Washington. We won the U.S. Open Cup, which was our biggest goal and I’m happy about that.”

To a question about the transfer market Erick Thohir responded like this: “Now is the time to figure out how much we spend, how much players earn, how many people who work in the club. We will talk about the future after the agreement is completed, in mid-November. I have great respect for Inter and Massimo Moratti’s history and tradition.”

Finally, Thohir talked about his family and the rivalry that exists when it comes to football: “I’m an open father and in my family we respect everyone’s thoughts. When it comes to football, we are, however, disagreeing about almost anything. In Premier League, I like Arsenal and my two most passionate sons (out of four ed.) are supporting Manchester United. In Spain we are divided between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Every Sunday at dinner time, we discuss for hours during our traditional family dinner. In Italy, Inter beat Juventus by two, I and my oldest son, against one.”
