Walter Mazzarri held his press conference as usual the day before the game against Livorno.
Inter is a team that scores a lot, with the most players in the championship:
“These are statistics that talk for themselves, it makes us happy because there has been a lot of talk about playing with more attackers whilst I’ve always claimed the important thing is how the players move and the football that they are trying to play. I think more about the whole team and the results, I like that we score a lot but in some games I would have hoped to let in less goals. We need to have attention so that we don’t let a lot of goals in, football is giving and getting. We are missing some points but we are satisfied.”
Inter-Argentina, it doesn’t seem like the situation is the same for everyone(Higuain compared to Campagnaro). What are the latest news on this front:
“I keep to the facts, the club has made things clear. I’m not interested in the rest and I won’t comment.”
Are you valuing using Zanetti as a central midfielder?
“I look at the field, the players know what I expect from them. When Zanetti is recovered he’ll be able to cover many roles. Having a joker like him in the group is only positive. He just needs to be good physically and at his best condition.”
What are you expecting from Juventus-Napoli?
“No comments.”
Don’t you have fear of the injury situation in the attack. Are you happy about Thohirs words?
“At Udine we only had one attacker and I also brought a promicing young striker like Puskas, who will be in the team tomorrow as well. My interest is in how the team behaves, if they do well we will play important games. Thohir? Of course his praise makes me happy, but we only think about getting the ressults that this club need. The majority owner has praised our work, but we and the supports have already seen it.”
Everyone says that the top three are better..
“There are specific valuations made in football, there are people who make their conclusions in the summer. The good thing with football is that except the strength of the teams there are exceptions made. For one like me who has a lot of experience, and who has been the coach of many different teams, it’s important to try to make the players give everything all the time. The table is the summary of all our games.”
Can Rolando play well in the middle of the defense and can Guarin play behind Palacio?
“In Udine I had good indications about this, but I always watch the team. Both of them did well and I could play like that again seeing how they did last game.”
Have you talked with Campagnaro about the national team?
“If a player isn’t at the disposal of the group you can see it, he can’t practice and he can play as the modern football requieres him to. If he doesn’t practice with us, it means he isn’t feeling well physically.”
How does it effect you to play against the team of your city. Have you followed Bardi with attention?
“We are following all of our players who are in other clubs on a loan. In the important academys usually players leave on loans to grow. It is now only Bardi, but others as well. I know Mbaye and Duncan well, I had them at the pre season for a while and I hope they will be important for Inter in the future. Livorno was a very important experience for my career. That year we made extra ordinary things. I’m happy about their championship and I like the president. Livorno is an important part of my past but tomorrow I’m Inter’s coach and I will only think about this.”
Our colleagues on Fcinternews ask if Samuel could play to the left in the central defense and if Zanetti could play a couple of minutes tomorrow:
“We’ll see, it depends for Zanetti. We need to test him and tomorrow he will be on the bench, we will see how the game goes. These are valuations that I keep for my self. If Samuel is fully recovered he’ll play, we’ll test him today. He could play to the left since he is the only left footed player we have.”
As Juventus and Napoli play this weekend, there will be an opportunity to come closer to the third place, what do you think about it?
“The destiny of the other teams isn’t depending on us. We will do our championship. Against Livorno it is a dangerous game, you can’t afford to underestimate anyone in today’s football. I have told the players to forget about Udinese, every game needs to be faced like a Champions League final and we can’t afford to think about who we are facing. I hope the players have listened to my words. The dangers are always around the corner, we need to show the football we did at Udine but for more of the time.”
Did you understand at your time in Livorno that you would be where you are today? What changed at Inter?
“Starting from nothing makes me proud, I didn’t even have friendships that I could use. I am coaching and concentrating on the players, on the squad and the field. Here the targets and the thoughts about the work is different. I have taken all my steps without thinking about anyone else. I prepare games only thinking about that, in that way nothing has changed.”
How do you hope to present your Inter to Thohir?
“With great calm and honesty I’ll say what I think, I can say what I think is right. If it is about a reinforcement I’ll express my opinions, but the club knows that it can’t do things without thinking about the budget. I’ve always wanted to make the players at my disposition give their best, and that is what I’m doing here as well.”
