In the last few days, rumours have emerged in England linking Gaston Ramirez to Inter as well as Fiorentina. The Uruguayan playmaker does not get a lot of playing time at Southampton and is thinking of returning to Italy, the country where he was appreciated and where he reached the highest level. The player born 1990 is looking to make the World Cup squad (he is however already a regular in Tabarez’s Uruguay squad that needs to beat Jordan in the playoffs to qualify for the finals in Brazil). Inter were very interested in the Ramirez two years ago, and tried to seal the deal at 8 million euros, possibly adding a player in exchange. Bologna however preferred Southampton’s 15 million bid, which also included a convincing salary offer to the player.
Now, Ramirez’s entourage is looking around and checking for other alternatives for the player. His agent, Pablo Betancout, seems to be planning a trip to Italy in order to meet interested clubs. The price is not yet set and official offers are yet to be presented, but the transfer fee should be lower than the one two years ago (a loan with a fixed buy-out clause can’t be excluded either). For now the player’s agent, contacted exlusively by FcInterNews, doesn’t exclude Inter as a future option. Here is his comment about a future in black and blue: “It could happen, but for now there is nothing concrete, really. The situation is still difficult”.
Whether Inter would still be interested in Southampton’s left-footed magician is unclear. It’s not sure that the interest from two years ago is still alive, also because of Ricky Alvarez’s recent explosive development. The Argentine is more adaptable on a tactical level, thanks to Mazzarri’s excellent work. Therefore, signing Ramirez doesn’t seem to be a priority for Inter, in spite of the club’s new policy of looking for younger players. Missing this opportunity, however, could be costly in the future. The eventual contacts between Betancout and Inter management will clarify the situation.
