Thohir: “We will only buy players that we actually need, we will be very frugal”

Inter’s new President Erick Thohir was interviewed by Apa Kabar Indonesia Pagi and denied that he has any political aspirations: “There are many who have argued that I would be a candidate for the elections in Indonesia in 2014 or 2018, but it’s not true. Now I’m president of Inter and I don’t want to be like Berlusconi. I’m not interested in politics. I only want to concentrate on getting Inter to grow in terms of economics and business, I think the club will be very strong financially. I have been watching football since I was a child so I am really committed to 100 percent for Inter to grow. I didn’t think I would be president. Moratti? He is a very intelligent person with great experience. He told me that I had to be president because otherwise there would have been a conflict of interest.”

On the transfer market: “Indonesians in Italy? I am determined to make sure to get U16 players to Inter youth section and U19 players to DC United. There is no need to include all players, one or two of the best, but everyone will have the same opportunity. The transfer market in January? It doesn’t depend on my personal decisions, the policy will be decided by agreement between the manager, the staff and the club. We will only buy players that we actually need, we will be very frugal. One day we will have our arena. Inter in Indonesia? I hope we will manage to get Inter Forever (a team of Inter legends eds.) to come here in February to play against a team of Indonesian legends.”
