Moratti elected into the Hall of Fame: “It’s been a fortune to lead Inter and win some”

Massimo Moratti is one of eight people who today officially was elected to the Italian football’s Hall of Fame. An initiative created by the FIGC and Football Museum Foundation in order to celebrate and remember the most representative and emblematic figures in the tradition of Italian football. Moratti is inducted in the category of Italian directors together with Adriano Galliani and Giampiero Boniperti for the following reasons, read by Gazzetta dello Sport editor Andrea Monti: “In the epic novel about the Italian football, like no other he played the role of its last patron, a president who was a supporter, who gave everything for a faith. A steadfast and reassuring symbol of our passions, a man in love with Inter, his career is divided into two moments: The European Cup which was raised by his father and the one who lifted fifty years later in his name, the peak of a career of victories and disappointments. He is the patron who won the most in Inter’s history. During the year he leaves Inter, he will enter with full right into the golden book.”

At the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence Massimo Moratti spoke to the crowd: “It’s been a fortune, for my whole family, to lead Inter and win some , it was what gave satisfaction to our’s and our fans’ hearts. Now I think it ‘s time to create order, internationalize the club. But this is a life, it has given great satisfaction. I hope Erick Thohir becomes passionate and I think he will, he has a nice character and here it will happen. Then I hope he will suffer as little as possible and that he gets satisfaction which happens when you work well and are lucky.”

On his father’s teachings about the presidency of the Inter: “We saw Paolo Rossi on TV and then I said ‘To have him’ and he told me to try it because it brings significant experience which is useful for any job you want to do.”

Moratti then went on to talk about the Indonesian owners: “They have behaved well towards me, they knew that this made me very sad so they handled me with care. If I wish that Angelomario will do as my father and I? My father told me that we need to have fun… Everybody must do things in accordance with his conscience, the passion is definitely still in the family.”

On the transfer market and who will manage it: “I think it’s the right of the one who takes over to make these sacrifices. Then Thohir says that we will manage the transfer market together, but ultimately it will be up to the coach to convince the owner to do what is necessary. Messi? I hope for his sake that he doesn’t obligate him to do this thing…”
