Jonathan: “When I arrived in Italy, the expectations on me were too big”

Inter’s Jonathan was interviewed in the program Deejay Football Club which airs on Radio Deejay: “I have said many times that confidence is the most important thing for a player. I want to play and learn more about Italian football as well. Now it has been three years since I came Italy and more than anything, I feel the confidence from the coach that I previously was missing. I have always been aware of my qualities, I’m happy about this moment.”

When he arrived in Italy, he was weighed down by a specific comparison: “When I arrived everyone was comparing me with Maicon, still, I said right at the press conference that I was not the new Maicon. Expectations of me had been created that were too big.”

He also talked about Kovacic: “Kova is a very good player, in training and even in the games you can see that he has a different pace, and is faster than the others. But he is young and needs to learn a lot about tactics, like I and everyone else. The coach trains him well but a player needs to play with continuity and maybe it’s what’s missing for him.”

The Brazilian concludes with his hopes for next year’s World Cup: “I have never had the opportunity to be called but I know I’m doing well and I know that Scolari is aware of me, however, there are significant players in my position. If I were to be called it would be great, otherwise I’m concentrating on Inter and continue to work here. If it won’t happen, I will be happy anyway because I play for a big club like Inter and I know many would like to be in my place.”
