Torino’s head coach Giampiero Ventura analysed the loss against Inter at the post-game press conference. Our colleagues at FCInterNews were there:

Question from FcInternews: did the Torino players protest because you “gave up” the fight for controlling the midfield by moving down the wingers and creating a five-man defensive line?

You will have to ask the players about that, my intention was to not allow too much space behind our defence. In the first half, Inter won only two headers in our area – one of them was fantastic – and they had two shots from outside the box. I am happy with our second half because we created a lot, I am not as satisfied with the first half because we put ourselves into situations that could have been avoided. I want to praise Vesovic who made his debut today, Rodriguez who returned after being out for four months, and Moretti who returned to the squad after an important medical operation. I am happy because our goal was to stay in the Serie A, and our other goal is to grow on a personal level: today I saw proof of our development as a group. We are getting more and more aware of how we can improve our game”.

Your two strikers looked tired, was it because of the national team break or was it thanks to Inter’s hard work?

“There are always several reasons, it was partly thanks to the Inter defence and partly because of us. However I believe that it was mostly our own fault. We have Immobile who has already scored 14 goals and Cerci who has about ten, but you can’t expect them to decide every game for us. Inter have their own objectives, we will have them in the future”.

Is the team too dependent on Immobile and Cerci?

“Every year I have to hear similar discussions. The reason why I am still working as a football coach is that I have an ambition to produce and develop, and this is the secret for every footballer who wants to get somewhere. Everyone can’t be a star player, and there are players with less talent who have understood how they should play in order to be decisive on the pitch”.
