Shortly, he will extend his contract with Inter, but in January he was close to leaving the Nerazzurri. Yesterday evening Fredy Guarin talked with Inter Channel in the program Internos and here is the full interview with the Colombian midfielder.

The bicycle kick against Torino, unforgettable?

“I can’t forget it, I celebrated like on Playstation.”

The ongoing season?

“I haven’t missed anything, it’s a long season and we are moving slowly. Intense? I do everything with one hundred percent passion. Hernanes says that we can win everything? I say the same.”

Is your nickname Fredy or Guaro?

“Guaro is what those who know me well call me.”

What do you need to improve?

“I have to improve many things, one thing is continuity on the pitch. I want to be able to play all the games at a high tempo and with concentration.”

Is there a lot of emotions at the San Siro?

“It’s always positive, with people giving great strength and emotion even if things aren’t going well. The murmur increases the concentration? For me it’s motivation. When we need positive strength from the fans, they give us that, it gives us confidence on the pitch. It’s obvious that they’re not happy with all the games. Even I was sometimes critical when I went to watch Millionarios.”

Your former team?

“I’m still attached to the team I played with in Colombia, I have many friends there and I always hope that they’ll win.”

The best moment in your career?

“There are many, in Porto when we won the Europa League. It was an unforgettable moment, it was an important tournament. I started on the bench and then I worked my way to a spot in the starting eleven. I made the assist for Falcao in the deciding game, I was there with him and James Rodrigues, my countrymen. If I return to Porto often? It was a long time since I was there. Since I came to Inter I have been there twice. I have many friends there, and my son.”

The swap with Vucinic wasn’t implemented in the end.

“It was an important signal of fate. It is the second time in my career that I have been close to ending up in Turin since I came here. I thought it was strange that it can happen two times without really getting done. But I’m here now and I’m focused on Inter. I don’t think about the past. No protests from the fans at the moment? When you do things with your heart, people understand that. There are those who think so, they are the ones who see it. On the pitch, they see if you don’t have the desire; the same applies if you’re not happy. The only way to prove something is on the pitch.”

Why do you wear number 13?

“My father always liked that number very much. In the national team, I’ve had it since I was young.”

How far will reach Colombia in the World Cup?

“I hope we can get as far as possible, I think it was important that we qualified ourselves. We managed to raise the level, all players; we’re going to the World Cup with a high level. We have a great responsibility, we want to go far. The pressure? It’s more about a desire to reach far, a desire that we have. After 16 years without a World Cup, there is great anger over what had previously been, and now they have a lot of confidence in us.”

The player who inspires you?

“I had two players as idols: Patrick Vieira and Ronaldo, Il Fenomeno. For me, as for my brother, he has always been a true inspiration for everything he has done.”

Milan?

“I like Milan very much, as does my family. This is important, that they’re doing well. I focus on football and I’m happy. I still use the GPS (laughs Ed.) Music? I listen to everything, perhaps most Reggaeton. I’m also a good dancer (laughs Ed.). I can see myself dancing salsa.”

Your roommate?

“I get on well with all my teammates. At present, Mauro Icardi is my roommate and we always have music on until we fall asleep, but I also hang out a lot with Palacio, Jonathan and Ranocchia.”

Do you sleep well the night before a big match?

“If I think too much about it, I can’t fall asleep right away. What I think of? On the video I’ve seen of our opponents, the player I will be facing and always, I say always, I try to imagine my next goal and what I should do when I get the ball.”

What I need to get continuity?

“We need to have continuity in the results, we know that we are playing well and we’re achieving significant results. Any match where I played better? Against Fiorentina and Cagliari, when we drew.”

Have you become more calm and play better since Hernanes came?

“When there are two or three players who can make decisive action, it is better for the team. There are more players who take on responsibility.”

Are you aiming to become a leader?

“You become that day to day, on the pitch but also outside. I think what counts is the personality, the man is important to become a leader.”

The most beautiful goal?

“A goal with Porto and another one when I was younger, about 17 years in South America against Brazil. The bicycle kick in Pinzolo? Nice, but there is no one who has seen it.”

Do you practice any other sports?

“Only football. Role models in other sports? Federer is the strongest, but I don’t play tennis. In sport, you can show your personality, I like to see that in sports, the gestures. Then I watch the films with Will Smith.”

Favorite position?

“The one I play in now, in the center of midfield to the right or left.”

Is the fourth place a good goal to have?

“It would be an important position, considering what we did this year and last and also what we want to do next. We hope to reach beyond that position. I like the Champions League very much and I miss it. It’s the tournament that motivates a player the most, in order to win it.”

Finally, short questions and answers:

“If I hadn’t become a footballer? I don’t know.”

“In school? I’m not an academic, but my kids have to study.”

“My kid’s position? In the attack or behind.”

“Teammate I’m most attached to? Falcao and James Rodriguez.”

“Falcaos injury? It was tough , I didn’t expect it when he did the surveys. We waited nervously for the result.”

“Afraid to fly? I have no fear of flying, I would say it is normal.”

“What is passion? That you live every moment to a hundred percent, all to the max.”

“What I want to ask the reporters? Instead of giving criticism that offend people, why don’t you do it in a constructive way?”

“Weakness? I have them, but I reveal it.”

“Strength? People’s appreciation gives me strength.”

“If I can cook? Yes, but not great. I love risotto, Italian.”

“Superstitious? Yes, a little.”

“The best player in the world? Now it’s Cristiano Ronaldo.”

“The first thought in the morning? I thank God and what my daughter, who is at my side, is asking me. (Laughs Ed.)”

“What I will think of when I hear the Internationale ? A dream come true.”

“How the season ends? Well, I’m hopeful.”
