Ahead of Livorno v Inter, Inter’s head coach Walter Mazzzari answered questions asked by the media regarding the upcoming game, the current squad, and much more. Here is what he had to say:
Comments on tomorrow’s game, there’s a lot of young nerazzurri on loan at Livorno.
“We will always test them, the players are followed and you do know that we have a lot of players, but only 11 players go on the field. When there is a risk of too many players, we prefer to send the young players out on loan to make them grow and come back ready to play for Inter. On the game, I have to say this: all the games in Serie A are hard, Livorno have strong support, and are fighting for points. I know the motives that they have when a team like ours arrives. You need to approach every opponent in the best way possible right from the beginning, then when we have the ball we have to try and finish as soon as possible.”
The contract extension also passes from Europe. Are you calm after the summit?
“As the coach, when I accept a mandate, it is as if it were my own squad. I have never thought of the extension, the president stimulates everything, I do everything by myself and I don’t think of anything besides the game. There have been so many missed points for the reasons you know, thinking less about goals maybe we can do better, we feel the pressure. Until the end, I will not think of anything else.”
What do you think of Guarin’s moment?
“He is a great player, he has a lot of qualities, still needs to work on certain things but is very talented. He doesn’t have to carry the squad alone. If I make him play, there will be a motive. I have to also think about the next game. I try to use other players, today there will be a training session that will verify everything. Tomorrow I will make the best decisions.”
Are there any young players at Livorno ready for Inter?
“Let’s not forget that there are still 8 games left, those games will say a lot. This type of valuation will be done at the end of the season. What I think of the players I will say when the club asks me, but for now I won’t expose myself, its confidential.”
Given struggles at home, will it be a advantage to play at Livorno?
“In Milan, I barely heard the fans, they seem dead. I always like to play at home, it helps the players. When a coach sees the squad create so much, I’m happy anyways.”
Are the referees afraid to blow Inter’s first penalty?
“The people see what’s going on, it has been talked about so much. At the end of the season, I will respond to certain demands. Now, with the season still going on, I can’t respond. At the end I will be at the disposal for everything.”
The squad has the same points like last season. Is there a need to revolutionize the squad?
“The same question I will answer at the end of the season, for now I can’t talk about anything else. Ask me questions about the game, and don’t ask me about anything else.”
Should we consider Milito a player at the end of his career?
“He is part of the team, I will use him when the appropriate time comes. At the end of the season, we will figure everything out.”
Hernanes, how is he at the moment? Plays close games?
“It’s true, recently he has had a foot problem, even at Verona he wasn’t 100%. Then in the second half, he had less and less fatigue. If someone isn’t fit they fall in the second half, Hernanes is the opposite. He’s good, too bad for these small problems, however he is not influenced by this. Now I think he has gotten rid of the problems.”
What is Nagatomo’s current condition?
“I still have to evaluate him and see his condition, and then decide to start him or put him on the bench. I will evaluate him and decide tomorrow.”
Are you less satisfied with your attack with respect to your past? Considering that in your career you have always got the maximum out of your attackers.
“The only measurable one is Palacio, the others I practically haven’t had. How can you evaluate Icardi? Milito, same story. Until my arrival, I thought that Alvarez could have been a second striker, but he hasn’t played much lately and must find his form. The only attacker that I have had at my disposal has been Palacio, he has always done well.”
