Walter Mazzarri kept his press conference and answered the questions from the present journalists. Is the most important thing to focus on the errors that have happened or to start over:
“The mistakes has been made and we have worked on them. We need to improve and grow starting from this. Then there are some errors that can’t be worked on that the player knows about just as he has done it and that doesn’t have anything to do with organization. For the individual mistakes we talk about psychology. We have corrected our mistakes and worked on it and this is how I’ve always worked, trying to improve the team and move forward.”
Every game that you have left are complicated. Having came here, do you feel safe that the team won’t let you down for your targets?
“We have made some mistakes and that is what we try to improve on. We have talked about psychological aspects and mistakes. On the field we have tried to win every game and this means that we can give everyone a hard game. We have to work on ourselves because it has been clear against lower level teams, and also against the better teams that we have been deciding the ryhtm of the game. Many times we have also been deciding the games, unfortunately also in a negative way.”
Icardi, have you talked to him and given him some hints?
“Of course I have talked to Icardi. I think that we are making him grow as a player and he needs to stay attentive. He needs to think about playing and to be charged for the games.”
Kovacic, do you see him as a vocal point of a future Inter?
“He is a talent and a talent is always a talent. He is very young and I think, seeing him the last games that he has understood a couple of things that we have worked on the whole season. He has improved in the tactical aspects and the shot on target and the last pass. He has grown and he is doing well. I am sure he will be an important player for Inter, just as he is now.”
What makes you hopeful.
“The performances, except very few games. We have got less than we have deserved and this is what makes me stay calm. If we watch what we have created and the others, we have always done well and this is what is important.
Are D’Ambrosio’s difficulties because of physical or tactical reasons?
“Everyone knows I ask the wingers to do a special job in difference from the other roles which is why I chose to rely on the players that I had during the summer. He needs to adapt and since he has done great earlier in his previous clubs I’m not worried. I think he will do great things with us but he needs to adapt to the mentality of Inter which is to win straight away.”
The distance between Italy and the rest of the leagues seems to be long..
“I think we need to think about the difficulties on the level of the great teams. It’s a transition period and from now on I think that we need to focus on hard work and organization of our teams because we can’t buy top players. Everyone needs to help and this will make us competetive again very quickly.”
Is this something you say because Inter won’t buy any top players?
“My destiny is this and it fires me up. It motivates me without making me scared. This is how my career has been. ”
Have you ever started a practice at seven in the morning and started a ritiro for a game that doesn’t mean anything?
“Any coach could do what they want. I haven’t done so earlier but every coach that takes on a project does what they think is the best for the club.”
Could Atletico be a role model for Inter? Seeing as they started in the Europa League, sold players and now are in the CL semifinal?
“I think so yes. I also think that we could watch other clubs like Barcelona who created something out of their youth sector and made it to the top in a situation where they needed patience.”
There were talks about an easy schedule. Now you have tougher games, could the luck turn?
“I have never known what could happen with the schedule. I have always had respect for our opponents seeing my experience from the Serie A has given me the knowledge that no game is easy, even if it looks so on paper. But as I repeat, I’m confident since we have played well when we could. We can create problems for everyone and we have shown that, unfortunately we haven’t always won and we have drawn to much. But seeing what we have done I am confident that we can finish the season well seeing the play we have produced.”
You score more goals away. Sampdoria has problems scoring. Will you win by your offensive force or by your defense?
“A team that wants to win and take points needs to be attentive defensive, and this makes them more dangerous if they manage to express their offensive potential. For the other teams I won’t comment”
What is the reason behind the comeback of the situations where you lead and then let goals in?
“This is a strange season, we have been bad in seeing the danger. We need to grow in the fact that we need to be able to decide the games earlier, we have been leading and then we have missed chances and been punished on the first chance from the opponents. When you play well you don’t think about the danger and then when you are punished things get hard”
The last few games have seen the teams that trail you come closer. Is it possible that the last game will decide the European places. According to you, is Inter ready for these last few games?
“For how I see things Inter is ready performance wise. The year is strange, when I’m zoomed in at the bench I have an expression which shows that I’m seeing things that I have never seen before. It’s strange if you think about having 2 points more 3 minutes from the end against Livorno. It’s strange not to win getting a penalty three minutes from the end against Bologna. I haven’t seen this team deserve to lose points many times in this season and that’s the truth from my point of view. And if we would have got those points, there wouldn’t be anyone talking today.”
Could Hernanes play trequartista?
“It’s one of the roles that he has played in most. If we want to have many technical players, we have to think about other concepts and if he plays trequartista we will need more balance in the midfield. If we had two hard players behind him it’s allright, but the last few games Alvarez has been playing trequartista and Hernanes behind him.”
Could Mihajlovic absence from the bench be bad for Sampdoria?
“Absolutely, but at that stadium for a game like this their players will be charged anyways from the atmosphere. I’ve been suspended many times and won, and if you prepare the game well before it’s played that’s the most important thing.”
Inter are going to face the end of the season with 9 players that are one yellow card from suspension..
“I don’t think about that. We have lost Jonathan and Juan that were in great form. We are getting Campagnaro back and Andreolli is playing well. We need to think about every game and not think about the suspension situation.”
