Cardiff sends message regarding Medel: “We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change”

Cardiff City have sent a stark message to Inter over their pursuit of Gary Medel, telling the Italian giants to “pay up or clear off!”

Frustrated Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman has broken his silence over the proposed deal as Milan continue to try and land the World Cup Star on the cheap. Inter have so far refused to come anywhere near meeting Cardiff’s £10m valuation, with some reports in Italy suggesting they only want to pay £1 million up front as part of a potential £7 million deal. Turkish side Galatasaray and an unnamed German club are understood to be prepared to meet the asking price, although, again, there is a reluctance to pay the bulk of the fee up front.

A defiant Dalman said: “We are not going to take a loss on a player who was a World Cup star in Brazil. We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change.”

It is clear that despite Inter’s confidence about landing the Chile midfielder, they remain a long way from reaching agreement on a transfer. City will not accept a loss on a player they signed for around £11 million from Sevilla a year ago, and won’t be bullied into accepting a lower fee.

“We will do the right thing for Cardiff City and the player. Our position has not changed. There are clubs interested in him, but we have not reached agreement with anybody so far. We will not take a loss on a player who did so well for Chile in Brazil.”
