Daniel Osvaldo’s transfer to Inter was made official yesterday and today he was presented to the media. SempreInter.com gives you Osvaldo’s entire presentation in English.
What does it mean to wear this shirt?
“It’s an honor to be here at Inter. I’m very happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
This Inter is very hungry, how hungry is Osvaldo to return to being a protagonist?
“Very hungry, because last year was a very peculiar year and I want to return to the level I was at before, whilst wearing this shirt.”
Did you say that you had no doubts when Inter wanted you?
“When Inter wants you there is nothing to doubt.”
Is there any bitterness or resentment because Juventus didn’t take advantage of the option they had to make your transfer to them permanent? Also, did you have any other offers?
“No, I’m calm. I was happy at Juve and I won a scudetto which I hadn’t done before. Regarding other offers, I don’t know anything about that, my agent knows about these things and therefore he will speak about them.”
What do you think about Gary Medel?
“He is a fantastic player who offers us strength and quality.”
Is the Scudetto a crazy dream or do Inter need to focus on returning back to the Champions League?
“The objective is to work, it’s pointless to talk beforehand. It’s up to us to show on the pitch if we are to challenge for the Scudetto.”
Have you ever seen Medel play?
“Yes, when he played for Boca Juniors, a club which I support. As I said before, he is a strong player, with a lot of quality, quantity, and he will give us a hand.”
What do you think about Antonio Conte?
“I don’t know what to think about his decision [to leave the club]. These are his decisions.”
In the past few years you managed to score in the double figures except for this past year, what happened? Also, do you have a minimum amount of goals you have set as a target for yourself in order to be pleased with your performance?
“I don’t know what happened, maybe a failure to adapt to English football and then also to change clubs in the middle of the season is never easy. I didn’t manage to get any continuity due to the presence of players like Tevez and Llorente. I’ll always be happy if the team reaches its objectives, other than that I always give my all.”
Do you think you can play together with Icardi?
“Yes, he has some extraordinary qualities and he’s a fantastic player. I think that if the coach decides to play us up front together we will adapt to each other.”
Do you think that you are the Top Player that Inter need? Also, your buy-out clause has been set at 7 million which is below your market value, how does this make you feel?
“For me this is an opportunity, if I do well I will stay with Inter for many years to come. I can’t see how this could leave me to feel any bitterness. A “top player,” me? Well, we’ll talk about it in a few months [smiles].
Out of all the clubs you’ve represented, which club lays closest to your heart?
“All of them effected me in some way. Juventus was special because I won the Scudetto there, also Espanyol will always have a special place in my heart, I was very happy there and I will always cherish my time there. I hope that my experience with Inter will surpass all those emotions.”
Is it true that you never feel that you are the right person for a club? I presumed it was irony and sarcasm…
“People who get to know me always change their opinion about me, this is enough for me. Nothing else interests me.”
Does it make you angry when people describe you as being a hothead?
“I certainly have a particular character. However, it’s also true that the media exaggerates, as well as invents things.”
Now that you’re at Inter, against which other team in the league do you feel a rivalry with?
“I would say no team, I’m calm about everything that I’ve done in the past. I don’t keep personal rivalries, maybe it’s the group with whom we’re fighting to achieve the same objectives as.”
To be named Milito’s heir, is it an honor or a heavy weight on your shoulders?
“For me it’s an honor, then there’s also a certain weight which I think is correct. I can take what he did as an example and if I can improve on that then that’s great. But for me both things are important and matter.”
Last year you chose Juventus and then you did not play in the World Cup. Would you make the same choice again?
“Yes, I don’t think I was not selected for the World Cup because of Juve but because of the choices made by the coach. I think I have been in the national team for the past 2 years without having missed a single call-up. But I’m convinced that this was not due to lack of space in the squad.”
What message do you have for your former team-mates at Roma and Juventus?
“I never said that I would win the league…I’m only thinking about doing well with this shirt as it is a chance for me to return to the level I was at before.”
Which number will you wear?
“I don’t know, these things are less important.”
Have you spoken with Mazzarri?
“Yes, but we will talk about the important things over the next few days. It makes me happy to be with a coach who has wanted me in the past.”
