”I’m happy to be here, it’s always an honour for me to represent Inter,” Javier Zanetti declared proudly from Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum, where the draw for the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League group stage was held today.
The Nerazzurri vice president offered his view on Inter’s Group F opponents: “There are no easy games in Europe. We’ve been given a tough group with some difficult away trips, especially if you look at the distance to be covered. We need to show our worth in every game.
“Saint-Étienne have a long history and they’re a side we must respect. As for travelling to Ukraine, it’s a delicate situation at the moment and we’ll see what UEFA decide. “The main is thing getting off to a good start. We want to be challenging in all the competitions we’re in. We want to get back to the top.
“Walter Mazzarri is building a fantastic group with new, young players. They’re a very close-knit group. The coach is doing a good job with the lads and putting his ideas into practice.”
Finally, Zanetti was asked about his fellow countryman Ezequiel Lavezzi: “He’s a great player but it’s not my place to discuss the transfer market. Pietro Ausilio is doing an excellent job on that front.”
