At exactly the wrong time for under fire coach Walter Mazzarri, inter’s attacking play has ground to a standstill. The Nerazzurri have failed to score more than one goal in six of their last eight games in all competitions. They haven’t scored a goal from open play since Hernanes’ late equaliser against Napoli four games ago. In the Serie A this season Inter are ninth in goals from open play with a poultry nine. If you took the Sassuolo thumping away the figures would be even more alarming. Rodrigo Palacio is clearly still suffering the after effects of his ankle injury and Mauro Icardi is playing so much football it’s inevitable that he has started to look jaded. With Mateo Kovacic’s offensive threat dwindling as the week’s go by Mazzarri must be wondering where the next goal will come from. Last season you needed to look as far down the league table as 14th placed Genoa to find a team that scored less goals at home than Inter, something that doesn’t bode well for the most trying time in Mazzarri’s Inter coaching career.
