Interviewed by German Bild, Lukas Podolski spoke of his arrival at Inter and much more.
From Cologne to Milan from one Duomo (cathedral ed.) to another Duomo: Which is better?
“I like the one in Cologne. Even Italians, if you see it at least once, they would understand that it’s even more beautiful. But it must be said that even that of Milan is impressive.”
Will your family shuttle between Cologne and Milan as they already did to London?
“Yes, we will alternate in the shuttle. We want our son not to be torn from his natural environment, such as school. He can use his free time as he likes. And then there is only an hour flight between the cities, so when I have the opportunity I will do so.”
Did you lose the fun at Arsenal and have problems with Wenger?
“I never had any problem with Wenger, there is too much talk about this. The only thing that I have criticized is that he didn’t wish me good luck for the new adventure in Milan, something that I expected since we spoke on my last day in London. ”
But it is undeniable that you barely played with Wenger…
“He’s the only one who knows why I was not playing. After the World Cup, in the summer, he told me what I was important to him, and when I played I had excellent performances. The statistics do not lie. The responsibility for the preparation before the games belongs only to the coach, then it’s he who knows why I had little chances to go onto the pitch. In the end I had to find a solution and that solution was Inter. This is a club that is still part of the world’s top ten.”
Montella advised Mario Gomez to give up his career given the many wasted opportunities…
“This is something that should never be said. A coach must always be at the side of his players, protect them. When you have a great striker like Mario, who had a hard time because of many injuries, you need to be near him. Mario will still say his, I am sure.”
You will remain at Inter until June: Why? Are you dependent of Wenger?
“I’m not dependent on anyone, nor as a player or as a man. I have a contract with Arsenal, in the spring there will be further talks and we will see how it will end.”
You’ve played 122 games with the national team: Can you beat the record of Matthäus (150)?
“It would be nice for that to happen, but it is not my goal. First I have to find the game rhythm here at Inter, then I can do my part in the national team.”
