La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Piero Ausilio is currently in London negotiating deals for Lucas Lieva and Paulinho. Mancini wants a new defensive midfielder and Ausilio flew to London last night to do some “shopping” in England. Inter will try to bring in Lucas Lieva or Paulinho before the January transfer window ends.

If Leiva is a deeper lying ”regista” type midfielder, then he and Hernanes can compete for the midfield role, beside Medel. But, I think we need a midfielder who can be box-to-box with better decision making than Guarin. In that sense, Suarez/Paulinho would be better.
I say this, because, Medel makes us too defensive as it is. If Kovacic were to probe forward to find/open spaces/ be in the box, having another midfielder in the final third/ just outside the six yard area, who can hold up ball, or enter the box late or provide options for Podolski and Shaqiri, apart from the overlapping fullbacks, can add some fluidity to midfield and attack.

Brozovic is the kind of potential we need for bringing balance to midfield. I don’t know why no one is talking about him in this forum.

Both of them are Brazil’s worst midfielders in decade. That’s what the commentators said during the last WC. Lucas was good before his injury. Paulinho? Over-hyped and overrated.

Lucas leiva arrival would make this mercato complete. I thought we need paulinho, but seeing how inter played in the last 2 matches. We need a player like lucas.. not as smart as motta but he has good game reading skills, can dictate tempo, yet a good tackler as well..

True in both cases, but I think Liverpool don’t want to sell Leiva because they’ve learned that he is important to their game (very intelligent player) and they don’t have a proper replacement lined up if they let him go. He, on the other hand wants Inter according to reports.
As for Paulinho, also true he isn’t worth more than 10, but I think Tottenham disagree, and to a certain degree I’m glad they do, it’s a risky operation and he could turn out bad. Besides, Mancini seems to prefer Leiva.
I agree with you, but as long as Ausilio can work his magic and strike a LOAN deal with OPTION to buy, I see no risks 😀
Mancini seems to prefer Suarez but Leiva is smarter I believe. In Italy it’s important to have intelligent players, especially for that role!!!

Ausilio should explore option of offloading Guarin to Tottenham for Paulinho. Leiva/Suarez too need to come in. I want Kuzmanovic to stay, and loan out Krhin.
