On Monday, Piero Ausilio spoke to Rai about Inter’s current situation.  Ausilio began by speaking about Inter’s defeat to Fiorentina:

“This relates to the club’s history, because we are crazy.  We came off a very good 4 match win streak, but we are still in a rebuilding stage and we are aware of it.  Mancini wants to make some changes, and he is building a project for the future.  In abot 2-3 months, we will start making decisions.”

Ausilio then talked about the January mercato:

“In the way I see it, we always make decisions together.  The sporting director must serve the coach and the president.  We need to understand what the team needs, and accommodate the regulations imposed by UEFA. At the same time we need to please the coach.  We must operate having these two things in mind.  Uefa’s ruling? I do not know what will happen.  There re members of the club who are in close contact with Uefa.  I belong to the technical sector.  I am confident because despite our struggles, we signed players on loan with the right of redemption such as Shaqiri, Brozovic, and Santon, who has matured a lot.  I am satisfied.”

The sporting director also dropped some hints about the upcoming summer transfer window:

“We want to keep our best players because they are essential to our project.  We have to respect the situation of those who are joining the club.  This does not mean that we will sacrifice our most important players.  The team is already competitive and the arrival of more player will help Inter return to greatness.  Handanovic, Guarin, and Icardi?  We want to keep all of them.  They are all established and essential members of this Inter team.”

Ausilio then talked about Icardi’s renewal:

“I can not confirm anything because he has not signed it yet.  Yesterday we had a meeting together.  He has done very well in the last 2 seasons.  We want to award his talent by meeting his demands, but we also have to be realistic.  He has done very well so far at Inter.   We both want the same outcome.  Do we have to sell him? I do not think so.  The offer does not have to be a crazy figure.  We expect Icardi to stay at the club.”

Another point of discussion was Inter’s youth system:

“We have a lot of faith in our youth academy.  I am impressed with the youth players who have had the opportunity to make the jump into the first team.  I am a realistic person, and I realize it is difficult.  We need to create something that will help these players have an easier time when adapting to the demands of the first team.  Playing at the San Siro immediately provides a lot of pressure, and these guys need confidence.  We can not forget the Mancini has been playing Puscas and Bonazzoli, and Santon returned to us as a more mature player after leaving for 5 years.”

There was then talk about Inter’s change in presidency:

“They have some differences.  We are talking about people who come from different backgrounds and cultures.  They have also had different experience in football.  Dr. Moratti grew up with Inter being his bread and butter, and the colours engraved in his heart.  Thohir is a businessman, but he is also very passionate for Inter.  He monitors Inter every night.  We inform him about everything that happens and we use more technology with Thohir  This is because Moratti was always present. Thohir’s love for Inter is close to Moratti’s.  What does Thohir think about Parma’s situation? He wanted to know how this could happen to a Serie A team that was sold to foreign owners.  In Parma’s situation, many people have been hidden from embarrassment.  This does not help anyone.   They must stay in Serie A.  This does not only apply to Parma because these sort of things have always been a problem in football.”

Ausilio then responded to a question regarding how far Inter are away from competing for the Scudetto:

“We are working hard to ensure we can do this as soon as possible.  We know it is not easy but we are doing our best.  We need to be serious and intelligent when we are focusing on building the team.  I hope that everyone can contribute: from the coach to the fans.  We need this in order to return to the top as soon as possible.  We are currently on a journey that is very difficult.  Yesterday we played against a team that was ahead of us. We resolved the situation involving the Curva Nord, and Mancini want to play good, attacking football.  However, this will take time.  Logically, we invested in young players born in ’92, ’93 and ’94 such as Brozovic, Kovacic and Shaqiri.  We will grow together.”

Ausilio finished by commenting on Palacio’s miss:

“Generosity is an important quality, but in that situation he could not see Icardi clearly.  We should forget about technical errors. Osvaldo’s farewell?  If this was a technical error, then it would have been forgotten about and resolved on the pitch.  In the last 10 minutes against Fiorentina we created good scoring opportunities.  We tried, but we did not succeed.  If we played a further 10 minutes, then I think we could have scored”
