Inter come into this game on the back of a good point away to Napoli which saw Inter come back from 2-0 down for a deserved 2-2 draw.

Inter booked their place in this round with a 4-3 aggregate win over Celtic which preserved Inter’s unbeaten record of 11 matches in the Europa League, which includes 3 draws in Inter’s last 3 away fixtures in the competition.

Wolfsburg come into this game having lost their 15 match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, with a 1-0 loss against Augsburg at the weekend.

Wolfsburg booked their place in this round with a 2-0 aggregate win against Sporting Lisbon.

Dieter Hecking’s team are the only Bundesliga club left in the Europa League while Inter are one of five Italian clubs left in the competition.

Here is Inter’s probable line up as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

Samir Handanovic should keep his place in goal although it remains to be seen if Juan Pablo Carrizo will start as Roberto Mancini has used the Argentine in cup competitions this season.

Danilo D’Ambrosio will start at right back with Davide Santon at left back. Juan Jesus and Andrea Ranocchia are expected to keep their places in central defence.

In midfield Marcelo Brozovic is ineligible so Hernanes could start in his place although Mateo Kovacic has been pushing for a start as well. Fredy Guarin and Gary Medel are expected to keep their places to complete the midfield.

Xherdan Shaqiri is likely to start in the trequartista position behind strikers Mauro Icardi and Rodrigo Palacio.

Yuto Nagatomo, Jonathan, Hugo Campagnaro and Joel Obi are all injured and Lukas Podolski is ineligible.

Probable Inter line-up (subject to change): (4-3-1-2) Handanovic, D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus, Santon, Guarin, Medel, Hernanes, Shaqiri, Icardi, Palacio.

Bench: Carrizo, Berni, Andreolli, Vidic, Dodo, Donkor, Kuzmanovic, Kovacic, Puscas.

Some Stats:

Inter have picked up 5 wins from 16 matches in Germany including a famous 3-2 win at Bayern Munich in 2011 where Goran Pandev, Wesley Sneijder and Samuel Eto’o were on the scoresheet.

Wolfsburg have failed to win only 4 out of their last 17 competitive matches at the Volkswagen Arena.

Wolfsburg have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 Europa League matches.

Wolfsburg have a poor record against teams from Serie A. In their last 3 matches against Italian opposition they have lost twice and had a 2-2 draw against AC Milan.

This will be the first meeting between Inter and Wolfsburg.

Player to watch: Fredy Guarin – The Colombian has been more consistent recently and we need a big performance from him in midfield.

My Prediction: Wolfsburg 2-2 Inter

Scorers: Dost, De Bruyne (Wolfsburg), Icardi, Guarin (Inter)

Officials: Referee: Szymon Marciniak    Assistants: Sokolnicki, Listkiewicz

Fourth Official: Siejka     Additional Assistants: Raczkowski, Musial.

Author’s Note: This tie is all important to Inter as they seek a route into European football for next season. Wolfsburg are in good form but I believe Inter have the players to hurt the Germans. Augsburg showed at the weekend that Wolfsburg are beatable. I would be happy with a goal scoring draw to take back to Italy.
