Pagliuca: “Inter need to keep Handanovic”

Ex Inter goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has been speaking on the possible departure of Samir Handanovic in an interview for Tuttosport.

Handanovic needs 3 more penalty saves to beat your career record?

“Yes, he’s just missing a few. I saved 24, but he has a very high average so far. He is a strong keeper and there are very few like him around. I think he will beat my record.”

He is proving to be an important player for this Inter?

“Very important. Handanovic played a great game against Verona, saving a Toni penalty at a sensitive time in the match. The game could have been reopened and the last few minutes were tough but Handanovic saved the result.”

Now Inter need to renew his contract?

“Inter would do well to keep him. Handanovic is a very good goalkeeper with outstanding features. In a team like Inter they need someone like him.”

If Handanovic doesn’t renew, what other goalkeeper could replace him?

“There are strong goalkeepers around but you have to see if it’s easy to sign them. Lately I’ve heard the name of Cech and he is another great player. He has won a lot in his career and has a lot of experience.”
