Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio spoke about a wide variety of things when he was a guest on Sky Sport’s show Football Night late last night.
Ausilio was asked about what happened when Mazzarri was sacked to which he replied: “”He did very well the first year and achieved all our goals, then there were some problems with regards to the surroundings and then the results didn’t come. The last few matches at San Siro you could see that he had lost the feeling with Inter’s fans off the pitch and that this fell on the performance of the players and the squad. The situation was unsustainable and lasted a few months. Sacking Mazzarri was something that happened very quickly, we had only thought of Mancini to replace him and we did so very quickly. he was the only one who could bring something new as well as give our project a jolt forward.”
Then Ausilio was asked to give his opinion on Lukas Podolski who’s been struggling since joining Inter: ” “When Podolski trains at Appiano Gentile, it seems as if he’s been with Inter for years, but in the matches he always has some problems. In Italy we’re not capable of giving coaches and players a lot of time to work. I’m thinking of Klopp, who including this year has had 5 or 6 years to construct a winning project.”
Finally he gave his thoughts on what led to Coutinho being sold to Liverpool: “”Regarding Coutinho, he arrived at a very young age he was only 16 – Ausilio explained -, and we left him for 2 years with Vasco, then he arrived with Benitez and the expectations were very high. Rafa used him as a winger to the left or right in a 4-2-3-1, he had so many qualities. He didn’t play, we lost our patience and so we preferred to sell him, there was no more time. I would like to see all young players grow up and succeed at Inter. There are many who have passed through here and when I see them wearing other shirts a sense of sorrow remains with me” Ausilio concluded.
