Jonathan: “This Inter didn’t have enough personality and luck”

Interviewed by the La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jonathan bids farewell to Inter after four years between lights and shadows. “From being the worst on the team I became the divine one (Il Divino ed.)…” the Brazilian full-back, who says he is ready to return to action after a long injury to the end of July, says with irony.

When was the most difficult time at Inter?
“The 2012-13, it was always my fault when anything happened. Then instead with Mazzarri everything changed. But I never thought about leaving although I was given all the blame. Inter have had the patience to wait and I will always be grateful. I think I have paid back to the club and the fans who hated me.”

And why did things go better with Mazzarri?
“Because when I made mistakes he simply told me to try again, that the next time would be better.”

Would you prefer to stay in Italy?
“Yes, because now my daughter is accustomed to this country, as well as me and my wife.”

Between Inter and Parma do you feel you have improved?
“I grew up in tactical and mental terms. Even if I realized how important it is to feel good and have the confidence of those around you.”

What has been lacking at Inter this year?
“A little personality and also luck. Although it’s difficult to judge from the outside. When it comes to Mancini I can’t say much, I worked very little with him. But we have established a good relationship.”
