Ernesto Paolillo, former Inter Milan CEO featured on TMW’s radio show “InterLine” and discussed Inter’s current predicament amongst other topics. Starting with the possible arrival of Chinese Suning Commerce Group between the shareholders: “I do not know this group so I can not give an evaluation of it, but it’s good to see Erick Thohir finding new resources with the entry of a new partner and looking for a development plan. It seemed like everything was stopped, but a team can only relaunch itself with a strategy and a new member can take it”. Inter Milan are for the moment respecting the parameters of the Financial Fair Play as recently announced by UEFA; then, why so many doubts on the work? “If we look at the financial statements and compliance with commitments the result is right. But there are also future commitments as buying loan players in the coming years, and those one will become the charges. We have to see if there will be revenues that will allow those charges in the future. Otherwise the situation will be distorted”.

What would happen if Inter Milan don’t reach Champions League? “Unfortunately, and I say that as a fan, there is nothing to do but sacrificing players. But we talk about the stronger ones, those who serve to build a future team. It would mean starting over once again, but if you want to fix the budget you have to sell 1-2 players that can bring in cash from 30 million up”. Is Paolillo confident about Inter Milan future? “Erick Thohir is not satisfying to me because I see no results both on sporting and economic terms, but I’m hopeful in the entrance of new members who can bring chances”. How long will it take to see Inter Milan competitive again? “No less than three years; by not qualifying into Champions you have to start from the beginning, because someone stronger will be sold and they must guess purchase of low-cost players. Transfermarket like the one of this summer is something those who do not have money and who puts in money must do. Defer payments and seek instant loans is the only way, though I prefer a different type of team building. Only Juventus is doing at this time, with a stable set of players and replacing older with young people. I don’t see something like that at Inter Milan, it’s a sorrow”.

Finally, a mark for Inter Milan’s season: “Surely insufficiency; the team could get third place, missing this goal involves failure. And I say this with regret.”
